The Cyclon™ Program
Cyclon™ is our circular services program. In 2022 we launched our first step: our Cyclon™ subscription program – bringing sportswear that was designed to be recycled to On customers. This first step provided invaluable data on consumer participation, material recyclability and infrastructure needed to scale our ambition.
This next chapter of Cyclon™ is about moving beyond a subscription model created for a limited collection of products, and instead, we aim to take responsibility for all the products we sell – starting with Cyclon™ Resale, where you can shop refurbished On gear and trade in pre-loved On shoes, apparel, and accessories. If the items that you trade in cannot be resold, they will be donated. And if that's not possible, they will be recycled.
We’re on a journey to be the most premium global sportswear brand, driving lasting impact for our communities and the planet. By harnessing human ingenuity, we've joined the movement to create solutions that reduce our impact on the planet. With our Cyclon™ program, we aim to take responsibility for all products we sell – by keeping them moving, long after their first finish line. Cyclon™ Resale enables consumers to trade in pre-loved On shoes, apparel, and accessories for resale. If the pieces are not fit for resale, they will be donated. And if that's not possible, they will be recycled.
USA, UK*, Switzerland. Keep an eye out for updates as the program plans to expand. *Please note that while it is live in the UK, the program is not currently available in UK Crown territories (such as Jersey, Guernsey, and the Isle of Man).
Any On member can participate, as long as Cyclon™ Resale is available in their country. Unfortunately we cannot accept cross-border transactions for resale or trade-in.
Yes, as long as Cyclon™ Resale is available in the country where you live, you can trade in your product.
Onward
Onward, our resale and trade-in program which we first launched in the US, proved the demand for premium resale. We’ve now moved from a standalone experiment to a brand-wide mission. Onward is now Cyclon™ Resale, our resale platform that keeps products moving, long after the first finish line.

Member Accounts
In order to trade in your gear through Cyclon™ Resale, you need to have or create a free On member account. In return, you will get free shipping and receive a credit for every eligible item you send in. Additionally, members will be eligible for other benefits via our On loyalty program. You can log in to Cyclon™ Resale with your existing On account details, and if you don’t have an On account yet, you will be asked to create one when you register an item for trade-in.
As a guest, you can shop refurbished On gear on Cyclon™ Resale, but you need an account to trade in a product and receive your credit.

If an item meets our quality standards for resale, you'll receive the maximum credit per category. Explore our rewards carousel to learn more.
If a product is no longer fit for resale, it is donated. And if that's not possible, it will be recycled. In these cases, we still provide a £5, $5, or CHF 5 credit to recognize your efforts.
Trade-in & Gift Cards
You can use your trade-in gift card on on.com, Cyclon™ Resale, the On app and your local On store.
We aim to take responsibility for all the products we sell – whether you buy them through on.com. the On app, any of the On stores or at one of our retail partner store. Please note that items that were not sold, including sample items and marketing merchandise (e.g. event t-shirts, medals, water bottles, yoga mats, towels, umbrellas, or promotional laces), will not be accepted for trade-in.
No, proof of purchase is never required, and we prefer not to receive any excess packaging. That being said, if you do have packaging you'd like to reuse, we welcome that.
Resale Process
Our refurbished gear on Cyclon™ Resale is made up of Lap 2 items and pre-loved gear. Lap 2 products refer to items that were either returned or rejected due to minor, non-performance related imperfections, which are still in great condition. These products could be a shoe that didn't fit and was returned, the t-shirt we set aside for try-ons or a pack that was lightly scuffed during shipping. Pre-loved gear was previously owned, worn and traded in. It has a history, but has been graded and cleaned, ready for its next story to begin.
Recycling & Donation
Items will be assessed and classified into three tiers for resale: excellent, very good and good. Typically, items that do not meet the good standard, but are still functional and have plenty of life left, will be donated. If that's not possible, they will be recycled. Please note that items from select collaborations cannot be resold or donated, so they will be recycled.
When products cannot be resold or donated, we partner with specialized regional recyclers to help keep them out of landfills. These items are sorted into distinct material streams, based on their composition. Once separated, these resources are processed into raw materials.
The regional recyclers help keep our raw materials in use. For now, this means they will mostly be recycled to make industrial materials such as insulation panels or filling for various applications. This helps us keep materials in motion when On products reach the end of their life.
Although our subscription program has ended, our original Cyclon™ Collection will be available for purchase without a subscription in June 2026. And our commitment to sustainability continues. We will keep the materials from our original Cyclon™ Collection in use, so please send back your used Cyclon™ gear once you've finished with it.
When we receive it, we’ll set it aside from other On products, and when we receive a sufficient quantity, process the used gear for recycling.
When it comes to the Cloudneo, the Cloudrise Cyclon, Cloudrise Cyclon 1.1 and Cyclon-T, we grind down the recyclable material to make new shoe parts out of it.
The Cloudeasy Cyclon is a bit different. We separate the upper from the bottom unit and use fiber-to-fiber recycling to turn the used upper into new yarn. Then, we grind down the shoe's bottom unit and send the material to partners who create new products out of it.
In 2022, we launched Cyclon™ with products that were designed to be recycled. It started with the Cloudneo. The shoe was engineered from two types of high-quality, high-performance polyamides from the same material family. The 98% bio-based upper is engineered from PA11, a polyamide derived from castor beans. The bottom unit is engineered from an equally high-performance polyamide compound called Pebax. This meant that we could recycle up to 90% of the shoe into pellets to create new shoe parts. The Cloudrise Cyclon, Cloudrise 1.1 Cyclon were also made with PA-11 and Pebax. While the Cyclon-T was made mostly from PA-11. This means that the recyclable parts in all four products can be shredded down and combined to create new product parts out of them. The Cloudeasy Cyclon is a little different. The shoe was made with just 15 parts, which is half of the average industry standard and allows us to recycle more easily. The upper knit is crafted from yarn made with 100% recycled polyester fiber. The midsole is made with 40% bio-attributed EVA foam, from ISCC+ certified material from sustainable feedstock. The TPU half-Speedboard® is 35% bio-based. And it's injected into the shoe's midsole to reduce waste. It also has a state-of-the-art recycling process. First, we separate the upper from the bottom unit and use fiber-to-fiber recycling to convert the upper into yarn. The bottom unit goes through mechanical recycling. We grind it down, and send it to our partners who create other products – like picnic tables. We have now decided to scale our efforts and to keep all the products we sell moving beyond their first finish line. Most of our products were not designed to be recycled and the recycled materials will not be suitable for making new shoe parts. Instead, we'll partner with specialized regional recyclers, and the recycled materials will be used for industrial purposes, such as insulation panels and filling.
We plan to work with partners like Soles4Souls, a non-profit organization which transforms shoes and clothing to provide relief, create jobs, and help people break the cycle of poverty.
Beyond Cyclon™ Resale, we also make charitable donations to other organisations and groups through our Right To Run community impact program. Learn more about Right to Run.
Our donation partners work directly with donation recipients and other organisations to provide items to people who may not otherwise have access to clean and functioning sportswear, and to people in relief areas. An important element of donation is the dignity of the recipient, so we will work with our donation partner to donate items that preserve and protect the dignity of those who receive and wear them.
We have processes in place with our recycling and donation partners, which are regularly inspected, so that all products are either recycled or placed in the hands of people who can use them again.
