In 2013, Krystal Cantu’s life changed in a single moment. After a car accident resulted in the amputation of her arm, Cantu realized she had to make a decision. Just one month after she was discharged from hospital, a determined Krystal stepped into the gym, returning to Crossfit. Overnight, she unintentionally became a sensation. “I was put in the spotlight as a Crossfit adaptive athlete.”
Eventually, Krystal felt the weight of being in the public eye, and the pressure to always be strong, and appear unaffected by her accident. “I started experiencing anxiety on a completely different level,” she tells SELF.
“This fear was taking over my life. I knew I had to change.”
